Gary George Vath

Gary George Vath, 91, of Hermitage, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.

Mr. Vath was born on July 24, 1935, in Sharon, a son of the late Albert and Mary Jane (Lamison) Vath. He attended Sharon High School and honorably served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Following his discharge, he worked for 28 years as a welder and fitter at the former General American Transportation Corp (GATX), in Masury. He then began his own home improvement company, Vath Home Improvement, where he worked until his retirement.

At the age of 70, he decided to further his education and earned an associate degree in arts and science from Penn State Shenango Valley Campus.

An avid writer, he had some short stories published and was working on a novel. Gary was also an outdoorsman, talented bowler, and coached for Hermitage Little League and was later an umpire.

He is survived by a daughter, Victoria Vath, Hermitage; a son, Gary Michael Vath (DeAnna), of Westminster, CO; three grandchildren, Tonya Vath Baker (Chris), Aaron Vath (Kelly), and David Vath (Ashley); and seven great-grandchildren, Blake, Caden, Penelope, Chase, LilliAna, Joseph and Ella.

In addition to his parents and wife, Gary was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Kenny and Kie Bedich.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday (08/11/2026) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon. 

Funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, in the funeral home, with Rev. James Power, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, Officiating.

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
