Funeral Mass will be Thursday for Gary J. Mooney of Hermitage, who passed away at 7:06 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, in his residence, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He was 58. Mr. Mooney was born Feb. 6, 1957, in DuBois, a son of Leon and Betty (Koval) Mooney. He was a 1975 graduate of Brockway (Pa.) High School and received his bachelor of science degree in marketing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1979. Gary began his career with Equitable Insurance, Houston, Texas, and later worked as general manager for Pilot Travel Center, Girard, Ohio. He was last employed as a recruitment specialist for five years at US Investigative Services (USIS), Grove City. Gary was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex. He enjoyed golfing, reading and walking his dog, Bandit. Surviving are: his wife, the former Joan Kosnac, whom he married Oct. 3, 1981, at home; two daughters, Tara M. Mooney, Astoria, N.Y.; and Tessa M. Van Der Lee and her husband, Josh, Allison Park, Pa.; a brother, Roger Mooney and his wife, Patsi, and their children, Matt and Kylee, Palm Harbor, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Vera Kosnac, Hermitage; and sisters-in law, Barb Fuhrman and her husband, Tom, and their children, Annie and Max, Erie; and Donna Kosnac, Cumming, Ga. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law, John Kosnac. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
