Obituary

Gary L. Cartwright, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday (2-10-16) at his residence following an extended illness with his family at his side. He was 70.

Gary was born December 21, 1945 in New Castle the son of Allan G. and Mary D. Parisi Cartwright.

He was raised in New Castle and graduated from New Castle High School in 1963. He matriculated to Youngstown State University where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business.

An Insurance Broker, he owned and operated G.L. Cartwright Insurance Agency in New Castle until 2005.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps he reached the rank of Lance Corporal and was honorably discharged on May 21, 1964.

He was a member of the Sharon American Legion Post 299.

Gary was an avid reader and outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He loved taking his luck at local casinos and he will be sadly missed by his three pets, Inky, Dinky, and Barnie.

His wife the former Michele O'Dal whom he married on September 23, 1989 survives at home.

He also leaves his two daughters, Christine Conrad (Jason), New Castle, and MeLissa Miller (Kurt) Bessermer, Pa., and his three stepchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Doreen Parady (Tom) Meadville, and a sister in law, Susan O'Brien, Chippewa, Pa. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James "Jim" A. Cartwright, and Ronald "Ronnie" O'Brien.

Calling hours: 10:00 until the time of service on Monday ( 2-15-16 ) in Christ Lutheran Church, Buhl Blvd, at Highland Road, Sharon.

Services: The Sharon Honor Guard will render Military honors at 11:00 a.m. Monday ( 2-15-16 ) in Christ Lutheran Church followed by his memorial service with Rev. Michael Lorzano, pastor officiating. Cremation has taken place.
