August 29, 1947 – September 20, 2016
Gail Turner of Sharon, formerly of Wichita, KS; passed away peacefully following a brief illness at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016, in Clepper Manor Continuing Care Retirement Community. She was 69.
Gail was born in Hartford, CT, on August 29, 1947, a daughter of Robert U. and Ruth B. Rock Rourke. She graduated from Putnam High School, Putnam, CT; in 1965 and then attended the University of Connecticut.
Although a homemaker for most her life, she previously worked as a drafting engineer at the Boeing plant, Wichita, KS.
Gail was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, where she loved singing in the church choir, participating in the Woman's Guild and volunteering as part of the West Hill Ministries. She was very devout in her faith and was in formation to become a 3 rd Order Franciscan. Throughout the 1980's and 90's she was very involved in the Pro-Life Movement.
Gail enjoyed participating in art, writing and line dancing classes at the Shenango Valley Senior Community Center, Hermitage. She will be remembered as a very outgoing and friendly person who always had a smile for everyone.
Surviving are: two daughters, Theresa Crawford, Columbus, GA; and Catherine Bell and her husband, Kyle, Arlington, VA; two sons, Robert Turner and his wife, Suzanne, South Hampton, NY; and David Turner, Wichita, KS; a sister, Janice Owens and her husband, Frank, Denville, NJ; a brother, Robert Rourke, Charlotte, NC; and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are her many dear friends, most especially Eileen Anderson, who has become like a sister to Gail in recent years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Mass will be Friday (9-23-16) in St. Rose Cemetery Chapel, Dutch Ln, Hermitage, PA 16148, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, as celebrant.
