Frederick J. Weller Sr. of Christy Road, Hermitage, passed away peacefully in his residence surrounded by his family at 2:25 p.m. Saturday (2-21-15) following a brief illness. He was 77. Mr. Weller was born in Sharon, one of eight children to Michael E. Weller Sr. and Julia Duffy Weller. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Sharon High School in 1955. Following high school, he gained employment at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant. A veteran of the Army, he entered the service on Aug. 24, 1960. He drove a personnel carrier while serving in Korea and reached the rank of specialist 4. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 23, 1966, with the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge, Expert Tank Gunnery Badge and Marksman Badge. He worked at several local factories including the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.; and Shenango Inc., Sharpsville; and retired from Hubbard's Liberty Steel Products, where he was their plant manager. His wife, the former Angela Calandriello, whom he married Sept. 21, 1963, survives at home. He loved auto racing and going to local tracks. He also is survived by his daughter, Laura K. Hauser and her husband Simon, Gibsonia; his son, Jeffery H. Weller and his wife Mary, Canton, Ohio; a brother, Michael E. Weller Jr., Transfer; six grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, David and Marie Weller, and Anina and Maia Hauser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Frederick J. Weller Jr.; three sisters, Betty Keister, Anna Caldwell and Julia Weller, who died in infancy; and three brothers, Harold "Herk" Weller, Robert Weller and Paul Weller, who died in infancy.
