Frederick Ponting, 72, of Hubbard, OH, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2019, in Washington Square Healthcare, Warren, OH.
Mr. Ponting was born February 17, 1947, in Detroit, MI, a son of the late Mark F. and Laura Mae (Lancaster) Ponting. He attended the former Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown, OH.
Fred proudly served in the US Marine Corps., doing three tours of duty in the Vietnam War, as a military policeman and an air traffic controller.
Upon his honorable discharge, Fred began a long career as a truck driver. He was employed as a driver for Hoge Motor Company, Springfield, TN; the former Jevic Transportation, Delanco, NJ; Baylor Trucking, Milan, IN; and spent the most time at PI&I Motor Express, Masury, OH.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3767, Hubbard.
Fred loved animals, especially cats and dogs and going for rides on his motorcycle.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Ponting, of Hubbard; his longtime companion, Jerry Thompson, of Masury; two sisters, Willa Huser and her husband Vern, and Elizabeth Runyan, all of Albuquerque, NM.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a brother, James Runyan.
Calling hours will be noon until the time of the service Wednesday (04/17/2019) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered by the Wheatland, West Middlesex and Farrell Honor Guard.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
