Obituary

Frederick F. Leonetti of Farrell passed away at 11:05 p.m. Monday, October 2, 2017, in Family Hospice, Pittsburgh.  He was 90.

Mr. Leonetti was born January 31, 1927, in Sharon, a son of John and Maria Olivia (Rinna) Leonetti.  He attended Sharon High School and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Jupiter in the S. Pacific during WW II.

Fred retired May 27, 1988 as a general foreman in the maintenance department of the former Sawhill Tubular Products, Sharon, where he was employed for 44 years.  He was a former member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.  Fred loved boating and was a PA Fish Commission Officer from 1968 to 2003; and a Deputy Waterways Conservation Officer for thirty years.  The Mercer County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs awarded him the Order of the Green Tie in 2004.  He also received the U.S. Corp. of Engineers Certificate of Excellence award in 2004 for his lasting contribution to the Shenango Lake.  Fred started the Shenango Underwater Rescue Team in 1961 and was one of the founders of the Shenango Valley Boat Club.  He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and, years ago, had a radio talk show on WFAR.

Surviving are: two sons, Dennis M. Leonetti and his wife Diane, New Wilmington; and Robert L. Leonetti and his wife Mary T., Greenville; five grandchildren, Jeanna Ronko and her husband Jim; Julie Riggs; Mary Gillespie and her husband Terry; Shawn Leonetti and his wife Kim; and Theresa Perna and her husband Jacob; 13 great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia Leonetti, S. Pymatuning Twp.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 30 years, the former Nancy Childress; a son, Michael John Leonetti; two sisters, Yolanda DelMonaco and Rose Trenga; 7 brothers, Angelo, who died as an infant; Reno, who died as a child; and Albert, Joseph, Angelo, Sandi and Reno Leonetti; and special friend, Shirley Walsh.

There are no calling hours or service.
