Obituary

Fred A. Tonty, 79, of Sharon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday evening, April 27, 2024, in his home.

Mr. Tonty was born June 9, 1944, in Sharon, a son of the late Fred C. and Mary Katherine (Marletto) Tonty and graduated from Sharon High School in 1962.

A self-employed businessman, Fred owned and operated Superior Heating and Cooling for many years.

Fred was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon.

An avid bowler, he previously owned and operated Reynolds Bowling Lanes and was a member of the Mercer Co. Bowling Hall of Fame where he served on its board of directors. He bowled in many leagues throughout his life, most notably the Sharon Automotive League.

Fred was also an avid golfer and longtime member of Sharon Country Club, now Avalon at Buhl. He founded and played in the Superior Heating Golf League held at the Hickory VFW Golf Course for many years.

A family man, Fred loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially while traveling to Disney or vacationing at his condo in the Outer Banks.

His wife of 20 years, Mary Frances (DiMario) Tonty, survives at home.

Also surviving are his five children, Darla Grandy (Lenny), Don Tonty, Lori Davis (Sean), all of Sharpsville, Adam Tonty (Sarah), of Hermitage, and Theresa Giglio, of New Castle; a sister, Lucy Spano (Vince), Howland, OH; a brother, James Tonty (Linda), of Sharon; 13 grandchildren, Jared Grandy (Morgan), Katie Grandy (Ashley), and Jenna Stowe (Terry); Taylor, Alexis, and Jacob Tonty; Sean A. and Allison Davis; Adam A., Mason, and Paige Tonty; and Gabriella and Gianna Giglio; eight-great grandchildren; two step-children, Aimee Taylor (Rick) and Jamie Dicks (Sarah); and three step-grandchildren, Jeffrey Parry (Emily), Tyler Reardon (Brittany), and Shelby Reardon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Mauk.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Friday (5-3-24) in St. Joseph Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with Rev. Raymond Gramata, as celebrant.
