Obituary

Fred William Smith, 55 W. Connelly Blvd., Sharon, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away at 7:55 p.m. Saturday (2-13-10) in Louis Stokes Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Cleveland. He was 60.

Mr. Smith was born August 4, 1949 in Sharon a son of the late John T. and Jeannette Ruth Fulford Smith.

He was a 1967 graduate of Sharon High School and served with the US Army during the Vietnam War from November of 1968 to November of 1970. Upon his honorable discharge, Fred was employed for more than ten years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a union steward until the plant closed. He then worked for Ivor J. Lee in Sharon for a short period before becoming a self employed contractor.

He attended Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon. Fred enjoyed bowling with the Westinghouse bowling league at the Sharpsville Bowling Center earlier in his life. He was a former member of the American Legion, Post # 299, Sharon and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post # 6404, Sharpsville.

Surviving are: two daughters, Jasmine Confer and her husband Duane, Newport, NC; and Jhade Smith, Las Vegas, NV; a son, Jared Smith and his wife Heather, S. Pymatuning Twp.; two sisters, Marjorie Brannan, Hermitage; and Connie Larouche and her husband Robert, Mills River, NC; a brother, John 'Butch' Smith and his wife Susan, Sharon; and four grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Albert Brannan.
