Fred Odem, 91, of Farrell, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.

Mr. Odem was born on March 2, 1935, in Goodwater, AL, a son of the late Ed and Veola (Halloway) Odem. He attended school in Goodwater and worked in the lumber industry.

In 1959, he moved to Pennsylvania, spending his working years in the construction and paving industries.

His wife, the former Sarah Fuller, whom he married on April 4, 1953, passed away on November 1, 2002.

A jokester at heart, he also loved to fix cars, cook, and fish. Additionally, Fred enjoyed following politics, watching old westerns and tending to his garden.

He is survived by five children, Peggy A. Odem-Burns (Samuel), Timothy L. Odem (Mavis), Willie F. Odem (Tammy), Ruth M. Odem, Derrick A. Odem (Holly); 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elnora Odem-Laney; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Fred was preceded in death by three daughters, Margaret E. Odem, Tina M. Odem, and Theresa J. Odem; one great-grandchild; 10 siblings, Thelma Odem-Scales, John L. Odem, James Odem, Samuel D. Odem, Tommie L. Odem, Ed Odem, Jr., Theodore Odem, Billie W. Odem, Martha Jean Odem-Higgens, and Gloria Cooper.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, at American Cancer Society

Calling hour will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday (10/06/2026) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

A Home Going Celebration will immediately follow at noon, on Tuesday, in the funeral home, with Rev. Donald Campbell officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
