Fred B. Miller, 1960 Rockwell Dr., Hermitage, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Thursday (1-29-09) in his home following a brief illness. He was 81.
Mr. Miller was born Feb. 24, 1927 in Farrell a son of the late Andrew H. and Mary Kristonko Miller.
He was a 1945 graduate of Farrell High School and received his bachelor's of science degree in Economics from what was then Youngstown College.
Fred worked for 32 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a Data Processing Engineer on the first computer placed in the valley and retired in 1985 when the plant was closed.
He was a charter member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where he was active for many years. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and, as a certified master gardener, mushroom picking and gardening. Fred loved his home and living next to Buhl Park for fifty years. Most of all, he enjoyed his eight grandchildren, whom he endeared. He was a former member of the Kennedy Christian High School Boosters Club and served with the US Army in Germany. During the depression years, his family owned and operated Nehi Bottling Co., Farrell.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by: his wife at home, the former Tressa E. Nichols, whom he married Dec. 2, 1950; two daughters, Mary Candace Miller Stimpson and her husband Ronald, Wattsburg, PA; and Bernadine M. Weldon, Sharon; a son, Ronald F. Miller and his wife Maureen, Slippery Rock, PA; eight grandchildren, Amanda Stimpson Ebner, Casey Stimpson, Jesse Stimpson, Tressa Weldon, AJ Weldon; and triplets, Jacob, Remy and Nichole Miller; a great granddaughter who is due in June; two sisters, Mary Louise Fisher, Greenville, and Dorothy Monsman, Mentor, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Fred was preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Kudray, Helen Androsko, Pauline Sabol and Delores Selnekovic; and six brothers, John, Andrew, Joseph, Steven, August and Martin Miller.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Home Care, c/o Sharon Regional Health System, 663 E. State St., Sharon, PA 16146.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday (2-06-09) in Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffery Noble, pastor, as celebrant. Military honors by the Sharon Honor Guard will be rendered immediately following the Mass.
Family will receive friends one hour before the Mass in the church.
In accordance with Fred's wishes, cremation will take place in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
