Fred P. Kienast, 94, of New Castle, passed away at his residence on the morning of July 28, 2016.
He was born in New Castle on April 20, 1922 to the late Herman and Bertha Knittle Kienast.
Fred was a 1939 graduate of New Castle High School. He served in the Navy during WW II, entering on June 5, 1943 and was honorably discharged as a Storekeeper 2nd class on February 10, 1946. Fred was awarded the WW II Victory Medal, the American Campaign medal and the Asiatic Pacific medal.
Following his military service he attended the Deforest Radio and Television Institute of Chicago. Fred was first employed as a Boilermaker for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He retired in 1995 as the General Manager of the Television Parts Company of New Brighton, PA after 43 years of service.
Fred was a member of St. Marys Church, Mary Mother of Hope Parish. He was a former member of GBU #56, Eintracht Singing Society, American Legion Post #343 and the Coachmen Club.
He enjoyed being outdoors walking, gardening and fishing.
An avid golfer and bowler, he participated in several of the local golf and bowling leagues throughout the years.
After his retirement, Fred enrolled in oil painting classes at the Hoyt Art Center and pursued his passion of oil painting and pencil portraits.
Fred was married to the love of his life, the former Mary L. Carr for 55 years, and she preceded him in death on October 22, 2001.
He is survived by: three daughters, Diane Kienast Ahearn and Mary Ellen Kienast, both of Rockville, MD, and Jane Kienast of Naples, FL. Also surviving are his two grandchildren Brendan Patrick Ahearn and Holly Marie Ahearn.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by one brother, Robert Kienast and three sisters, Thelma Edmiston, Ruth Kienast and Helen Sniezeck.
Calling hours will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday (8-1-2016) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 111 W. Falls St.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday (8-2-2016) for St. Marys Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Rev. Joseph Codori. Interment will be in Madonna Cemetery.
The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites at the cemetery.
