Obituary

Funeral will be Wednesday for Fred E. Davis, who passed away at 6:28 a.m. Sunday, Feb 22, 2015, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 87. Mr. Davis was born March 7, 1927, in Greenville, a son of George C. and Daisy Hunt Davis. He attended the former Penn High School, Greenville. Fred worked as a keeper in the No. 2 blast furnace at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant for 27 years, retiring in 1974. Fred began his military career with the 28th Division of the National Guard. He then transferred into the Army and served during World War II as a military guard in the 1st Division at the Nuremberg Trials in Germany. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and two unit citations. Fred was a member of Farrell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 and the Italian Home, Farrell. He will be remembered by his family as a great storyteller. One of his favorite joys was playing scratch-off lottery tickets. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy K. Tatomirovich, whom he married Feb. 10, 1950. He also is survived by: two daughters, Mary K. Marti and her husband James, New Wilmington; and Debbie L. Davis and her companion Rick, Baltimore; two sisters, Betty Johnston and her husband, Vernon, Greenville; and Doris Perschka, Sharpsville; a brother, John Davis, Greenville; two grandsons, Jimmy and Dakota Marti; a granddaughter, Christine Mary; and two great-granddaughters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Simpson, and five brothers, Albert, George, Joseph, William and Donald. The family would like to thank Dr. Frances Pucharich and staff for the kindness and excellent care they extended to Fred. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, 75 Mercer Ave., Wheatland, PA 16161. Calling hours: 12:30 p.m. until time of service Wednesday (2-25-2015) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Service: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Mark E. Goswick, pastor of Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
