Franklyn Allyn “Al” Clary, III, 90, of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2026, in his home.

Mr. Clary was born January 23, 1936, in New Castle, a son of the late Frankyln A. Clary, Jr. and Dorothy Colgan Clary, and in 1954, graduated from Kiski Preparatory School, Saltsburg, PA. He received a full athletic scholarship to play football at Boise State, Boise, ID, and later completed his athletic career and academic studies at Youngstown State, Youngstown, OH. He later earned a degree in hospitality and restaurant management while living in Washington, D.C.

A proud veteran, Al served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1964, and was awarded the Marine Corps and Navy Commendation Medal prior to his honorable discharge. He was also a lifelong member of the Marine Corps League Detachment #788, New Castle, PA.

Al was a member of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church in Greenville and a former member of St. John’s Episcopal in Sharon and Trinity Episcopal in New Castle, where he served in various capacities, including on the church vestry and multiple church councils.

Al was a man of many gifts, empowered with an entrepreneurial spirit that led to the management and ownership of several successful businesses throughout his life. A family man, his greatest joy in life came from spending time with family and becoming a grandfather, later a Pop Pop, to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren – supporting them in absolutely every endeavor.

Al married his beloved wife, Illona Marie “Babe” Clary, on April 22, 1960, and she preceded him in death on August 7, 2022, following 62 years of marriage.

Al is survived by two daughters, Debra Lynn Clary and her husband, David M. Leyde, of Sharpsville, and Pamela McGonigle and her husband, L.
