Franklin L. Nogee, 87, of New Castle passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at his residence. He was born in Shenango Township on March 20, 1928, to the late John and Mildred Laborde Nogee. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt as a fireman from Jan. 28, 1948, to Dec. 24, 1951. He married the former Gayle V. Miller on March 4, 1957. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 1991. Franklin retired from the Crane Co. as a bore tester-grinder, where he was employed from 1957 to 1981. He loved the outdoors, hunting, caring for his home and lawn, and spending time with his friends drinking coffee at McDonald's. He is survived by two daughters, Vivian Lee (Pete) Caruso of Butler and Laura Jean (Randy) Richards of New Castle; a son, John Nogee and his companion, Anna E. Forkey, of New Castle; a sister, Margaret Ann "Peg" (Ralph) Saul of Burnet, Texas; his close friend, Karen Park of New Castle; four grandchildren, Derek (D.J.) McCracken, Jared Joseph (Jazmyne) Nogee, and Allyson and Jennifer Caruso; a stepgrandson Tyler Richards; and a great-grandson Jaxson Nogee. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; four brothers, Walter, George, Bill and Tom Nogee; and a stepson, Harry Burbules. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be private.
