Frank R. Zickar, Sharon, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Monday (7-20-15) at his home. He was 86. He was born February 8, 1929 in Farrell, Pa., one of four sons born to Louis and Anna Zager Zickar. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Farrell High School in 1947. He matriculated to Theil College where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry. Mr. Zickar gained employment with the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He retired in 1992 with 38 ½ years of service. He held several patents in the field of Transformer insulation. For 12 years he was on the Board of Directors in the Sharon School District and was the board treasurer for 9 of those years. He was also on the School Building Authority during the construction of the current High School. Mr. Zickar belonged to the Slovenian Home, Sharon, and the Italian Home, Farrell. Mr. Zickar was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon. A decorated veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean War and was honorably discharge in 1956 with several medals and citations. His wife the former Frances M. Wiley who he married November 10, 1956 passed away September 9, 2010. He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Stranieri and her husband Nicola, Brick, NJ, Nancy Mihlo and her husband Jeffrey, Sharon, Linda Habinak and her husband Jim, Cleveland, Ohio, a son, Keith J. Zickar and his wife Leisha, Pasadena, MD, a brother Raymond F. Zickar and his wife Kathy, Hermitage, and 7 grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandaughter Alexis Mihlo and his two brothers, Louis J. Zickar, and Robert W. Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday (7-24-15) in Notre Dame Church, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage. Military honors will be rendered following the Mass.
