Obituary

Frank J. "Puncho" Tamber, Jr. of Hermitage passed away at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2016, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness.  He was 62.

Mr. Tamber was born August 27, 1954, in Sharon, a son of Frank J. Tamber, Sr. and Josephine "Chooky" (Reda) Tamber.

He was a 1972 graduate of Farrell High School and received his bachelor's degree in American History from Edinboro (PA) University.

Puncho was a standout football player while playing for Farrell and was named 1
st Team All Conference as an offensive and defensive lineman.  He earned a football scholarship to Millikin University, Decatur, IL, and transferred to Edinboro following an injury.

Frank was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell.

He was employed as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 20 years and retired in 2009.  He previously worked at Wheatland Tube and as a long term substitute teacher for the Farrell Area School District.

Puncho served as an assistant football coach at Farrell for more than 25 years.  During this period, Farrell won four WPIAL championships and two state championships.

A gifted athlete, Puncho was also a very good baseball player for Farrell Little League and JV and later in the Jefferson Township League and for the Falcon Foundry team in the Youngstown Baseball League.  He most recently played for Pepsi-Cola in the Shenango Valley Slow Pitch softball league, which won numerous championships.

He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and the University of Michigan football team and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Puncho also loved cooking.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Debra Splitstone Clarke, at home; two sons, Marc Tamber and his fiancé Stephanie Rossi and their daughter, Madeline Rose, New Castle, PA; and Frank Tamber, III, Sharon; a step-daughter, Shawna Wright and her husband Marcus and their two daughters, Aubrielle and Sienna, Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Joanne Retone and her husband Anthony, Farrell, and Joanne's sons, Eddie, Gino and Justin Nicastro; his father- and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Splitstone, West Middlesex; a sister-in-law, Barbara Zirkle, Transfer; a brother-in-law, Bill Splitstone, Sharpsville; a former brother-in-law, Ed Nicastro, Hermitage; and his beloved dog, Vinny.

Puncho was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Rosanne Tamber.

4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 , in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral Mass will be
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2016, in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell, with Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant.  Interment: St. Anthony Cemetery, Hermitage.
