Frank L. Barretta of Hermitage passed away peacefully at 12:26 a.m. Thursday (1-6-11) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, with his family by his side. He was 93.
Mr. Barretta was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Sharon, a son of Thomas S. and Emelia Grandelis Barretta.
He was a lifelong area resident and a 1935 graduate of Sharon High School.
Frank served with the Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He retired in 1982 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. where he was employed for 40 years as an electrical tester.
Mr. Barretta was a founding member of Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex and a current member of St. Joseph Church in Sharon.
Frank belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell; and the Sons of Italy, Shenango Valley Lodge. He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bowling and, most of all, his family. Years ago, he and his wife Phil traveled to Europe and toured Italy.
His first wife, the former Marie Rodgers, whom he married in 1941, passed away in 1959. His second wife, the former Philomena 'Phil' Zappa, whom he married Nov. 18, 1961, passed away July 8, 1999.
Surviving are: four daughters, Diane G. Levitt and her husband Tom, Sharon; Tina M. Cole, Hermitage; Trudy L. Stillings and her husband Dick, Farrell; and Melanie A. Gifford and her husband David, Hartford; three sons, Ernest 'Skip' Barretta and his wife Cynthia, Hermitage; Frank L. Barretta and his fiancée Nancy O'Hara, Sharpsville; and Tom Skladanek, West Middlesex and his fiancée Leslie Bush, Sharpsville; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Paulette Barretta, Virginia.
Besides his two wives, Frank was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ret. Maj. Anita L. Barretta; and a brother, Ret. Maj. Louis S. Barretta.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Monday (1-10-11) in St. Joseph's Church, corner of East State Street and Case Avenue, Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant. Military honors will be rendered immediately following the Mass.
