Francis Patrick “Pat” Smith, 79, of Hubbard, OH, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, in Butler Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born on February 22, 1947, in Vallejo, CA, a son of the late Ralph and Cora (Brown) Smith. He was a 1966 graduate of Sharon High School and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. While in the service, he was a medic and earned the nickname “Doc.” He stayed close to the guys in his unit, who met annually, each year at one of the unit's hometowns.
Following his honorable discharge, he went to work at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Pat eventually took a job at Sharon Tube, where he worked in many departments throughout his 34-year career there.
He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3767, Hubbard, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Post 103, Sharon.
He married his wife, the former Patricia Ward, whom he married on October 19, 1991. Together, they enjoyed traveling and camping.
An avid sports fan, Pat had a passion for cheering on all of the Pittsburgh sports teams.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; a son, Lance Smith; two stepchildren, Cheryl Gallager (Chris), of Liberty, OH, and Stanley Ward (Trish), of Girard, OH; a granddaughter, Logan Edwards (Kenny), of Hubbard; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Spencer; and two siblings, Judith Moon, of St. George, UT, and Ralph “Chip” Smith (Rosalyn), of Sharon.
In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Smith.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday (06/24/2026) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home.
Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
