Francis R. "Dink" Schneider of S. Pymatuning Township passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning (10-18-16) in his residence. He was 91.
Mr. Schneider was born June 16, 1925, in Sharon, a son of George and Margaret (Boos) Schneider.
A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of the former St. Joseph School and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
He married the former Dorothy "Dot" J. Mausser on September 1, 1947, in the former St. Joseph Church, Sharon, and enjoyed 68 years of marriage before her passing on April 21 of this year.
Dink was a well known meat cutter throughout the region and worked for many establishments, including the Farrell Golden Dawn from which he retired. He and his wife previously owned the former Schneider's Golden Dawn at the corner of Smith Ave. and Griswold St. in Sharon and later the Kinsman (Ohio) Golden Dawn.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, and a former member of St. Joseph Church and St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, both Sharon.
He was a daily volunteer driver for Meal on Wheels at Christ Lutheran Church Sharon for many years.
Dink and Dot loved to golf and looked forward to golfing in Florida with friends. A scratch golfer in his prime, Dink was one of the top amateurs in the area during the late fifties and early sixties and had three holes-in-one during his lifetime.
He was also an avid fisherman and along with his wife enjoyed many annual fishing vacations to Canada during the summer months.
Surviving are thirteen children, Mike Schneider and his wife Cindy, Cortland, Ohio; Paul Schneider and his wife Kay, Kinsman, Ohio; Fred Schneider and his wife Syd, Cody, Wyoming; Tim Schneider and his companion Debe Tarkenton, Bessemer, PA; Joe Schneider and his wife Debbie, Dickinson, ND; Andy Schneider and his wife Trisha, Houston, TX; Margie Bougher and her husband John, Clark, PA; Dave Schneider and his wife Lois, Brookfield, Ohio; Steve Schneider and his wife Mary Beth, Cumming, GA; Jane Moose and her husband Ron, New Castle, PA; Dot Cerroni and her husband Dan, Sharon, PA; Fran Wilson and her husband Bob, also Sharon; and Mark Schneider and his wife Denna, Vienna, Ohio; 33 grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
He also leaves a sister-in-law, Rita Schneider, Camden, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Dink was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Catherine Pierson; and four brothers, Wilbur, Robert, Edward and Paul Schneider.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Willow Women's Center, P.O. Box 145, 1291 Rutledge Rd., Transfer, PA 16154.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2016, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016, in St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, with Rev. Matthew J. Strickenberger, pastor as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors rendered by the West Middlesex VFW, Wheatland American Legion and Farrell VFW Honor Guard.
