Frances A. Sass, 88, of Bruceton Mills, WV, formerly of Hermitage, passed away Monday afternoon, November 25, 2024, in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
Mrs. Sass was born on September 14, 1936, in Farrell, a daughter of the late William and Serena (Pauline) Machuga. She was a 1954 graduate of Farrell High School and studied to become a registered nurse at the former Sharon General School of Nursing.
Fran dedicated her life to nursing and spent her entire career at Sharon Regional Medical Center.
Fran was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Church, Pittsburgh.
Her husband, Nicholas Sass, whom she married on October 18, 1958, passed away on December 17, 2006. Together, they shared many good memories and traveled throughout the world.
Fran pursued and brought Special Olympics to Mercer County for her daughter Debbie and others like her. Later, she assisted her other daughter in starting her business, Stellar Support Services.
She loved spending time with her family and looked forward to game nights. Fran also liked her iPad, which went everywhere with her.
She is survived by two daughters, Vickie D'Avanzo and her partner Tracy Feather, Bruceton Mills, and Linda Fuller and her husband Jeffrey, Sharon; a son, Gary Sass and his wife Amy, Sharpsville; three grandchildren, Zachery, Jayden and Adam Spaulding; a special family friend, Brynna Bishoff; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Fran was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Sass; and a son-in-law, Saverio D'Avanzo.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Debbie's Memorial Park, 230 Maple Ave., Dravosburg, PA 15034.

Divine Liturgy will follow at 1 p.m., in the church, with the Very Rev. Kevin Marks, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Michael's Cemetery, Hermitage.
