Frances Brunish, 85, of New Castle passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, June 26, 2024, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Mrs. Brunish was born October 22, 1938, in Islip, Long Island, NY, a daughter of Ulyssus and Vera (Young) Cook. A 1956 graduate of Islip High School, she earned a bachelor's degree in music from Potsdam University (NY), and earned a master's in reading from Westminster College. Later in life, she completed the registered nursing program through Jameson Hospital School of Nursing, earning her RN certification in 1994.
Primarily a homemaker, Frances was an exceptional seamstress and an avid reader who dedicated her life to her family and their church.
Frances was a member and former longtime choir director of St. Elias Orthodox Church in New Castle, where her late husband, the Very Rev. George Brunish, served as Pastor.
She is survived by a daughter, Androniki "Niki" Mickey (David), of New Castle; a son, Stephen Brunish (Sharon), Cranberry Twp., PA; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Brunish; and a brother, George Cook.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Elias Orthodox Church, 915 Lynn St., New Castle, PA 16101.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (6-28-24) in St. Elias Church. Rev. Fr. Kevin Long will lead a Trisagion vigil service at the conclusion of calling hours.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday (6-29-24) in the church, with Rev. Fr. Kevin Long, officiating.
Interment: St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shenango Twp.
