Floyd G. Mikis of Hermitage passed away peacefully at 9:35 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2016, in his residence, after a brief illness.
He was 87.
Mr. Mikis was born November 28, 1928, in his current home in Hermitage, a son of Stephen and Ella Brest Mikis.
He was a lifelong area resident and attended Sharon and Farrell Schools.
Floyd retired as a core maker in 1991 from the former Valley Mold and Iron, Hubbard, Ohio, where he was employed for 27 years.
He was a past president and grievance man for Steelworkers Local # 1058.
Following his retirement, he worked at Abe Cohen Auto Parts in Hermitage.
Floyd was an active member of Fifth Avenue Community Church, Youngstown, Ohio, where he served as an Elder, attended Bible Studies and volunteered with the Food for the Poor.
He loved the Lord and served people with all of his heart.
Everyone knew him by his great smile and awesome sense of humor.
Floyd was a member and past president of the Patagonia Volunteer Fire Department and, years earlier, coached little league in Patagonia.
An avid bowler, he was a member of several bowling leagues.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Margaret McMath, whom he married September 5, 1953, in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon; a daughter, Sue Purfey and her husband James, Boardman, Ohio; two grandchildren, whom he adored, Courtney Purfey, Boardman; and Stephen Purfey and his wife Jessica, Ravenna, Ohio; two sisters, Sara Ser, a resident in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage; and Grace Bernat and her husband John, Farrell; several loving nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Glenn "Sonny" Bacon, also a resident in St. John XXIII Home.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen "Skip" Mikis; three sisters, Irene Bacon, Rosemarie "Bubby" Franks and Jeannie Kolsky.
Floyd's passion was his family, particularly his two grandchildren, Courtney and Stephen.
