Florence S. D'Amore, Brookfield, Ohio passed away peacefully at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday (6-23-10) in O'Brien Memorial Health Care Center, Masury, Ohio with her family by her bedside. She was 84.
Mrs. D'Amore was born February 5, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio a daughter of the late John W. and Melanie Raupple Shutrump.
She was a 1944 alumna of Ursuline High School, Youngstown, and received her B.A. degree in 1948 from the former St. Mary of the Springs College, Columbus, Ohio (now Ohio Dominican University).
After teaching art, home economics and religion at Ursuline High School for one year, Florence managed real estate properties and apartment buildings in Trumbull and Mahoning counties, owned by the Shutrump family, for 36 years and continued managing property she and her husband owned until April of this year. She was a longtime active member of St. Bernadette's Church in Masury, Ohio where she was a member of its Altar & Rosary Society. Her father was the contractor when the church was built and her husband was a founding father and charter member. Florence had many interests and talents throughout her life. She was an accomplished calligrapher and would write beautiful letters to family members and friends. She made every gathering or family event special-attending to even the smallest of details. Her love of art, birds and flower gardening was only surpassed by her love for her family and faith which she inherited from her father. As the family genealogist, she had a stro!
ng interest in collecting and sharing family history and loved family traditions. Florence will be remembered for her generosity to her family, friends, church and those in need.
She was a member of the Trumbull County Medical Society Auxiliary; the Ursuline High School Alumni Association; the Tuesday Morning Early Birds bowling league at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon; and was active for many years in women's card clubs.
Her husband of 58 years, Dr. Amanto P. D'Amore, whom she married May 5, 1951 in St. Joseph's Church, Youngstown, passed away February 25 of this year.
Surviving are: four daughters, Claudine Ugran (Joseph), Austintown, Ohio; Denice Fogle (Thomas), Grove City, Ohio; Mary Lou Mikolay (Joseph), Canfield, Ohio; and Laura Miklos (John), Sharon; four sons, David D'Amore, M.D. (Debbi), Brookfield; Randy D'Amore (Deirdre), Farmington Hills, Mich.; Loren D'Amore (Lisa), Masury; and Donald D'Amore (Michelle), North Olmstead, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a third due in November; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Florence was preceded in death by her step-mother, Hildegard Raupple who raised her; and a sister, Ruth S. Igel (George).
The family would like to thank O'Brien Memorial Health Center for their exceptional care and compassion during their parent's illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities; the Diabetes Association; the American Cancer Society; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
