Evelyn Van Zanten, formerly of South Pymatuning Township, passed away peacefully in Brevillier Village Retirement Community on January 23, 2016 in Erie, PA, at the age of 87.
Born to John and Stella Ledney, on June 12, 1928, Evelyn grew up in South Pymatuning Township and attended the Lone Star public school. She was employed by Westinghouse, in Sharon, PA, and later in life by Sharon General Hospital as a home health aide. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church and enjoyed the simple things in life such as baking, gardening, bowling, and spending time with her family. In her younger years, she enjoyed roller skating with her siblings at the Five Points Roller Rink in Hartford, OH.
Evelyn is survived by her children Henry C. Van Zanten of South Pymatuning, PA, David Van Zanten of Hudson, OH, and Lynne Hulse of Harborcreek, PA; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Henry Van Zanten, parents John and Stella Ledney; four brothers John, Michael, George and Nicholas Ledney; and four sisters Mary Coners, Sylvia Stuart, Anne Hromyak, and Estelle Adams.
Calling hours: Thursday (1-28-16) from 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm at J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc 1090 E. State St. Sharon.
Services: 11:00 am, Friday, (1-29-16) at St. John Orthodox Church, Hermitage, PA, with a luncheon to follow at the church hall.
Interment: St. John's Orthodox Cemetery, Hermitage.
