Eugene N. Scarmack of Farrell passed away peacefully
Monday
morning, May 30, 2016, in his home.
He was 87.
Mr. Scarmack was born March 14, 1929, in Farrell, a son of Andrew Charles and Angeline DiCello Scarmack.
He was a lifelong Farrell resident and a 1947 graduate of Farrell High School.
Gene retired on October 5, 1984 as a lay out draftsman from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he was employed for 38 years.
He was a lifetime active member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell, where he served as an usher and was a member of its Bethany Club.
He also belonged to its Holy Name Society and was honored as Man of the Year in 1996.
Gene was a member and financial secretary for more than 50 years of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Valley Council, # 4003, and was also a 4
th
Degree Knight with the Sharon Assembly, Council # 0960.
He was a member of the First Italian Social Club, Farrell, and the Slovenian Workingmen's Educational Home and its former Pensioners Club and the Westinghouse Retirees, both Sharon.
Gene served as a coach for 20 years in the Farrell-Wheatland Little League and was a member of the AARP # 3616, Hermitage.
He and his wife, Toots, cherished the time they shared together as well as with their family.
Together the two of them enjoyed going on bus trips to local casinos and polka dancing.
Their last dance was to their favorite song, "Sentimental Journey."
Holidays and attending their children's, grandchildren's and great –grandchildrens scholastic and athletic events were always special times.
Gene was fortunate to attend his great grandsons little league championship game this past
Sunday
in the Hermitage 10 and under tournament.
He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, reading, and his monthly family poker night.
Years earlier, Gene participated in bowling and golfing leagues.
Surviving are: his loving wife of 62 years, the former Helen Marie "Toots" O'Korn, whom he married September 12, 1953 in St. Anthony's Church, Sharon; three daughters, Gina Marie Fromm and her husband Robert, Transfer; Geri Linn Warchol and her husband David, Hermitage; and Gayle Marie Orrico and her husband David, New Castle; two sons, Gregory Andrew Scarmack and his wife Estelle; and Gerard Alan Scarmack, all Farrell; seven grandchildren, Bob Fromm and his wife Danielle and their children, Angelo, Amelia and Nicholas; Jennifer Mausser and her husband Eric and their children, Addison and Liliana; Jason Fromm and his wife Andria and their son August; Gerard Scarmack; Sean Scarmack; Cassandra Scarmack; and Gianna Orrico; two sisters, Amelia Brumm and her husband Dr. Lynn Brumm, E. Lansing, MI; and Rosemarie Scarmack, Hermitage; a brother, Andrew Scarmack and his wife Kathleen, Canfield, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Scarmack, Athens, Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Gary Scarmack; a brother, Vincent Scarmack; a special uncle, Frank Schell; and a nephew, Lindy Brumm.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, PA 16121.
