Eugene B. Rodgers 190 Logan Ave., Sharon, passed away peacefully at his residence at 10:20 p.m. on Friday (4-1-11) with his loving family at his side. He was 91.
He was born February 20, 1920 in the Patagonia area of Hermitage the son of Lewis C. and Ella F. McCarthy Rodgers.
He graduated from Sacred Heart Parochial school and attended Hickory High School.
He was a machine operator with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Sharon Transformer Division for 32 years, retiring January 31, 1984.
He was a life-long active member of Sacred Heart Church in Sharon where he served on the Parish Council, the Finance Committee, and the Vicariate Council. He was also responsible for overseeing the Sunday ushers, readers, and money counters for 25 years. After retirement, he was an altar server for daily mass for Msgr. Donald Scully for 13 years.
Gene, as he was known by his family and friends, was a fan of NASCAR. He was married to Helen G. Walsh on September 10, 1941 in Sacred Heart Church by her brother Father Kevin Walsh, O.F.M. His beloved wife Helen of 47 years, passed away on Feb. 18, 1990.
He is survived by two daughters, Betty Anne Powell and her husband, Russell W., Masury, OH and Suzanne Holt and her husband, Richard N., Sharon; two sons, Michael P. Rodgers and his wife, Susan, Sharon and Louis D. Rodgers, Sharon; six grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as Pop-Pop, Susan Hahne, Michael Powell, Douglas Rodgers, Tina Rainey, Shellie Gorczynski and Angie Holt; two step grandchildren, Kelley and Kyle Tillery; eight great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Annette Rodgers, his three sisters, Katherine Black, Helene Uhl and Marguerite O'Neill; two brothers, Paul L. and Robert I. Rodgers, and long time close friend, Msgr. Donald Scully.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday (4-6-11) at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Sharon, with Rev. Henry C. Andrae pastor as celebrant.
Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
