Eugene P. "Gene" Hvizdak, Jr., 70, of Sharon, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, Poland, OH.

Mr. Hvizdak was born on October 12, 1953, in Youngstown, OH, a son of the late Eugene and Dolores (Rockwell) Hvizdak, Sr. He was a 1971 graduate of Ursuline High School.

He married his beloved wife, the late Diane Garon, on October 19, 1974. She passed away on April 13, 2023.

Gene was employed as an aluminum anodize operator at the former Easco Aluminum in Youngstown. Upon the plants' closure, he worked at the former Imperial Dry Cleaners and Reyers Shoe Store, both in Sharon. He ultimately retired from the Sharon School District where he was a custodian and was a Union Rep and served as Union President.

A shooting enthusiast, he enjoyed taking target practice at Hidden Valley Sportsman's Club, West Middlesex. He also enjoyed woodworking and watching classic westerns.

He is survived by a son, Christopher Eugene Hvizdak and his wife Sarah (Weber), Austin, TX; four sisters, Susan Latarski (Dan), Monica Hvizdak, all of Cleveland, OH, Cindy Mostoller (Adrian), Virginia, and Patricia Longmore, Youngstown; two sisters-in-law, Deb Fleischer (Robert), Sharon, and Kathie McMillan, Seattle, WA; three nephews and a niece, Adam Garon (Lori), David Garon, Kenneth Longmore and Alexandria Garon-Kendrew; five great-nieces, Emma Lucille, Ashley, Abigail, Teagan and Lennon; and a great-nephew, Kieran.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of the Valley  Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, OH 44514; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org; or the Shriners Hospital for Children, www.shrinerschildrens.org

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (09/11/2024) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday (09/12/2024) in the funeral home.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
