Eugene Dillon, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 9:26 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012, in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 70.
Mr. Dillon was born April 5, 1941 in Sharon a son of the late Frederick I. and Mary Ellen Griffin Dillon.
A lifelong area resident, he attended the former Sacred Heart Parochial Grade School and served as an altar boy at the church.
He graduated from Sharon High School in 1959 and later attended Penn State University, Shenango Valley Campus, Sharon. Gene served with the US Army as a cryptographer in Company A, Tenth Battalion, Fifth Training Regiment and was stationed in France and Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed as a coil winder at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation for fifteen years, until the plants closing. He then worked at the former Medal Distributers in Sharon for more than fifteen years and retired from Wal Mart, Hermitage, where he was a sales associate in the meat department for approximately five years. Gene was a longtime active member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. He was extremely dedicated to his loving family and enjoyed spending his time with them, particularly his grandchildren. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
Surviving are: his loving wife, the former Denise Brestelli, whom he married October 14, 1967 in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with Msgr. Andrew Karg as the celebrant; two daughters, Amy Gargiulo and her husband Frank; and Paula Dillon, all Hermitage; and two granddaughters, Ava Francesca Gargiulo and Olivia Noelle Gargiulo. He also leaves a brother, Robert Dillon and his wife Ruth, Brookfield, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Mary Helen Brestelli, Sharpsville; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Elaine Brestelli, Hermitage; Carl James and Cheryl Brestelli, Traverse City, Michigan; Fernando and Elise Brestelli, Waynesville, Ohio; and Christopher and Virginia Brestelli, Westbrook, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Dresel; and a brother, Frederick Dillon.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2012, in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors rendered by the West Middlesex VFW and Wheatland American Legion honor guard.
