Obituary

Erma (Boggs) Davies, 89, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, in St. John XXIII Home, holding the hands of her loved ones.

Mrs. Davies was born on August 4, 1935, in the former Christian H. Buhl Hospital in Sharon, a daughter of the late Erwin and Jennie (Gribble) Boggs. She was a graduate of Sharon High School and Edinboro State University.

On August 27, 1960, she married William Davies. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before he passed away on March 6, 2016.

Erma was a passionate teacher for 37 years. She taught at Musser School for 20 years and West Hill School for 17 years. On her last day of teaching her husband hired a limo to take her to school. She had a knack for making learning exciting. Many of her former students will remember "Math Order" and the Hawaiian play. She adored each and every one of her students. Erma was nominated for the KDKA television "Teachers Who Care" award by her principal, Bill Dunsmore. Many of her students became teachers. Additionally, she played piano at many of her students' weddings.

She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teachers' society, for over 50 years. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sharon, where she served as President of the Methodist Women. She also enjoyed doing the Children's Sermons.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Boggs; two nieces, Michelle Boggs, both of Sharon, and Jill Hockinberry, of Wooster, OH; and special friends, Bill Dunsmore, Barbara Mannion, Lisa and Ed Newmeyer, Traci Valentino, Laura Jackson, Cindy Shaffer, Pastor Cherrie Andres, Kenny Smith, and Christian and Diane Cuscino.

In addition to her parents and husband, Erma was preceded in death by her brother, William Boggs.

Her family and friends want to acknowledge with the deepest gratitude the care and love she was given by the entire staff of St. John XXIII Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, 237 West Silver St., Sharon, PA 16146.
