Emma Slabe, Whispering Oaks, 260 S. Buhl Farm Dr., Hermitage, PA; formerly of Masury, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning (1-29-09) in her home. She was 90.
Mrs. Slabe was born May 21, 1918 in Jacob's Creek, PA a daughter of the late Antonio and Lodovina Zorzi Zorzi.
She moved to the area in the late 1920's and was a 1938 graduate of Brookfield High School.
A homemaker, she was a longtime member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.
Mrs. Slabe enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and her women's club. She also enjoyed flower gardening, particularly tending to her many rose gardens.
Her husband, John Slabe, whom she married June 1, 1940, passed away April 14, 1971.
Surviving are: a daughter, Darla Skoch and her husband Daniel, Sagamore Hills, Ohio; a son, William Slabe and his wife Ambler, Bowie, MD; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Rebecca and Margaret Skoch; a sister-in-law, Marie Zorzi, in California; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Emma was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Robert, Henry and Leno Zorzi; and two sisters, Flora Pacora and Agnes Renschigai.
Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday (2-01-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday (2-02-09) in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, with the Rev. Henry Andrae, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
