Obituary

Emilio J. "Elmer" Mensurati, Sharon, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at 3:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, in Jameson Hospital, New Castle, following an extended illness. He was 81. Elmer was born July 20, 1933, in Sharon, a son of Ernest and Maria "Mary" Manilla Mensurati. A lifelong city resident, he was raised in Sharon and attended Sharon schools. Elmer was employed for more than 40 years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant, where he worked in many capacities. He was working with the railroad gang at Sharon Steel when he retired at the plant's closing in November 1992. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. An avid bowler, Elmer enjoyed bowling at Sunset Bowling Lanes, Farrell, and, more recently, at Thornton Hall Bowling Lanes, Sharon, where he bowled in the Tavern League. He was a member of American Legion, Sharon Post 299; and New Deal Club, Farrell; and was a member and former trustee of Sons of Italy, Shenango Valley Lodge 875, Sharon. A huge sports fan, Elmer's favorite teams where Notre Dame, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, and the New York Yankees. His first wife, Maria (Spadafora), whom he married April 1956, passed away July 29, 1966. Elmer's second wife, the former Karen Garland, whom married July 27, 1968, survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Judy L. Rogers and her husband Edward, Sharon; and Maria Clyde and her husband Dan, Hermitage; two sons, Ernest C. Mensurati and his wife Rita, Berea, Ohio; and Gerald A. Mensurati and his wife Melissa, Brookfield; a brother, Victor A. Mensurati and his wife Maria, Pittsburgh; and eight grandchildren, Ashtyn and Lexi Rogers, Thomas Clyde and his wife Beth, Samantha Clyde, Matthew Mensurati, Amanda Homady, and Dominic and Emily Mensurati. In addition to his first wife, Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jeanette Doblanski and Delores Rankin; and three brothers, Anthony, Louis, and an infant, Emilio. His family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Jameson Hospital, including Dr. Kaul, Dr. Hofius and Dr. Iqbal, as well as the nurses in the critical care unit, for the loving care and support; you will remain a part of our family forever. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to National Autism Association, 1 Park Ave., Suite 1, Portsmouth, RI 02871. Entombment: St. Rose Mausoleum, Hermitage.
