Elmer F. Baker, Sharpsville, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Thursday (5-12-16) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. He was 82.
Elmer was born in Hickory Township (Hermitage) September 20, 1933, one of five children born to Joseph and Regina H. Borsch Baker.
A lifelong area resident, Elmer graduated from Hickory High School in 1951 and he studied at Youngstown State University.
In his early years he worked as a Police officer for the City of Farrell and he also worked at one time for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
He retired from the Sawhill Tubular Division of Armco Inc. where he worked for thirty years.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew Church and their Holy Name Society, Sharpsville.
Elmer enjoyed golfing, playing Bocce and was a member of the Ball Buster Golf League and the Italian Home Bocce League.
He also enjoyed participating in the activities at the Mercer County Senior Center.
During the Korean War he served stateside with the United States Army.
His wife the former Rosemarie Jean Palanti who he married September 1, 1956, passed away December 18, 2008.
He leaves his three daughters, Melissa Burich and her husband Thomas, Sharpsville, Valerie Reichart, South Pymatuning Township, Cheryl Nehr and her husband Jeffrey Nehr, Cranberry Township, a son Mark Baker and his wife Kelly, West Melbourne, Fl., eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris Mariani) Reichart, Thomas (Caitlin) Burich, Gregory (Rachel) Reichart, Ashley (Trey) Rabinek, Natalie (Ian) Hricik, Gabrielle and Spencer Nehr, Ross Baker, and two great-grandchildren, Jonahven and Amelie Mariani
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Michael Reichart, his two sisters, Elizabeth Reidman and Helen Paulitz, and his two brothers, Charles and Robert Baker.

Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (5-17-16) in St. Bartholomew Church with Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor of Notre Dame Church as celebrant.
Interment: Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage, With full military honors provided by the Hickory VFW Honor Guard.
