Obituary

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and educator, Janie Weigle, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 28, 2023.

She was born January 25, 1947, to William "Bill" and Virginia Dale Austin in Elkhart, IN. who both preceded her in death.

A two-time cancer survivor, she fought a long battle and persevered with courage and dignity.  Through the sheer power of her formidable will, she battled her last three weeks against a fatal bout with septic shock.  The family is most appreciative of the long-term and loving care provided by Dr. David L. D'Amore.

Janie married the love of her life, her rock, Thomas J., on June 5, 1965.  She graduated from Lincoln High, Ellwood City, PA just four days before her wedding while Tom graduated from Geneva College seven days later.  Both were raised in Ellwood City but moved to Pittsburgh, PA after their wedding to start their new family and Tom began his accounting career with U.S. Steel.

Kristin (Kevin) Walgenbach and Timothy (Jennifer) Weigle were both born in Pittsburgh. Brian Weigle was born in Sharon, PA where they moved in 1970 and raised their family.

She was a loving sister to Judy (Bob) Rodgers, Zanesville, Oh, and Jacqueline Austin, Burbank, CA. Cherished grandmother to Benjamin and Samuel Walgenbach (Austin Conroy), Vegas Weigle, and Colsen and Peyton Weigle.

Janie's first career, like many other women in the 70's, was raising her three children.  Homemaker was a title she cherished and wielded powerfully with aplomb.  When her cowbell rang announcing it was dinner time (6 p.m. sharp) all the Case Ave. kids knew the Weigle gang better get moving quickly!

Janie's home was a true source of pride for her and her family.  She put forth boundless effort to decorate it for the many seasons of the year, most especially, Christmas.  Her love of gingerbread men was widely known.  So vast was her collection of Christmas decorations (exceeded, only recently, by her collection of Luminara candles) that she annually decorated two, eight-foot Frazier firs trees for the holidays and was once featured in The Sharon Herald.

Janie was quite involved with the Sharon schools while raising her three children and made a career for herself there upon their graduations. Her 18-year career in the Sharon City school district centered on children with special needs.  She mastered reading and writing Braille for two of her students. Most fondly, she treasured the time she spent working with David Ball in his Learning Support classroom at C.M. Musser Elementary.

Janie was a long-time member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Sharon, Pa. prior to joining 1st Presbyterian Church in Sharpsville, Pa. While in Sharon she served as a Deacon, Elder and Wedding Coordinator.  Her faith was of utmost importance to her and it showed brightly in her work and her family.

In lieu of flowers, Janie wished to have memorial contributions made in her name to The David G. Ball Memorial Scholarship, c/o The Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH, 7 W. State St, Sharon, PA 16146.
