Obituary
Elizabeth 'Betty 'Vaughn, 4911 Northwoods Dr., Hermitage, Pa., passed away peacefully of natural causes at 7:25 a.m. Monday (10-27-08) in Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, She was 82.
She was born on Sunday, October 24, 1926 in Farrell, Pa., the daughter of Wilbur and Mary Lewis Smiley.
A lifelong area resident, she graduated from Farrell High School and later from the Christian H. Buhl School of Nursing in Sharon where she earned her diploma to practice as a Registered Nurse.
For thirty five years she was an orthopedic scrub nurse to local orthopedic surgeons Dr. Aye and Dr. Benninger. She later worked at Clepper Manor Nursing Home, Sharon, for 19 years and retired in December of 2007 at the age of 80.
She was of the Methodist Faith.
Betty enjoyed bridge and golf and had belonged to several golf leagues over the years. She was a former member of the Sharon Country Club where she was proud to have made a hole in one.
One of her favorite things to do was getting together with her 'Club', Marguerite, Beatty, Julie, Dolores, and Mary Ann, all grade school friends for life.
She is now in the arms of her husband of 51 years the late Thomas 'Arky' Vaughn, who passed away on July 13, 1998.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Fridley with whom she lived, her beloved grandchildren, Forrest N. Miller, Canfield, Ohio, and Amanda V. Miller at home, her precious great granddaughter Rhys Elizabeth Miller, two sisters, Olive Altham and Shirley Dunn, niece and nephews, Marilyn Moss, Allen Altham and the late James Dunn Jr.
