A memorial service will be held on Saturday for Elizabeth 'Betty' Ann Lait, Charlotte Ave., and formerly of Buena Vista Dr., both Hermitage, who passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (9-15-09) morning in her residence. She was 73.
Betty, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on June 17, 1936 in New Castle, Pa. the daughter of Thomas D. Cubellis and Anna G. Armond Cubellis.
She graduated from St. Mary's Elementary School, New Castle in 1951 and from New Castle High School in 1954.
After High School, She worked at the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
She married Jack H. Lait on June 29, 1957 and he survives her at the residence.
Betty operated the Farrell area day care center in the late 1970's in her home for 6 years. She also worked assisting the elderly as a private home care provider for more than 5 years.
She moved to Virginia in 1985 and worked for Marriott Dining Services a George Mason University, Fairfax, Va. She also was employed for 5 years by the ABCO Corporation, Lorton Virginia. While in Virginia, she was a supervisor for the Nursery at Annandale Baptist Church, Annandale.
After 10 years, Betty returned to the Shenango Valley and worked for Comstock Hearing in Sharon for 4 years retiring in 1999.
She and her husband are members of Notre Dame Church, Hermitage where she had belonged to the former Ave Maria Society.
She enjoyed volunteering her time by teaching CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) Classes at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Greenville. She also was a volunteer for A.W.A.R.E. Children's Programs, and the American Respiratory Alliance of North Western Pa. Since 2000, she has devoted her time to being the Support Group Leader for the Mercer Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Association.
She is survived by her two sons, William T. Lait and his wife Marilyn, Sharon, Pa. and John M. Lait of Glendale, AZ., one brother, Paul J. Cubellis and his wife Loyce, Austintown, Ohio, one sister M. Martina Connaughton of Hamilton Oh; and her granddaughter, Samantha Lait.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant brother and sister.

Calling hours: There are no calling hours. Betty's last wishes included donating her remains to the Humanity Gift Registry for educational purposes.

Services: Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (9-19-09) in St. Rose Cemetery Chapel, Dutch Lane, Hermitage, with Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor as celebrant. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.
