Obituary

Elizabeth Hayden, 740 Crestview Dr., Sharpsville, (S. Pymatuning Township) PA passed away at 2:03 a.m. Friday (7-2-10) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was 85.

Mrs. Hayden was born February 18, 1925 in Ridgeville (Butler County), PA a daughter of the late August and Mary Nagy.

Following her graduation from the former Hooker (PA) High School, she worked at the Butler Hospital; made army clothes at the former Spaid Shirt Factory, Butler; and then made shells for the war effort at the Pullman Shell Shop.

She married Joseph G. Hayden on May 18, 1946 at St. Pascal's Church in Argentine (Butler County) and lived in West Sunbury Township (Butler County) for twenty years before moving to the area in 1966.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Mrs. Hayden was an avid golfer and a member of the former Sharon Country Club. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Surviving are; her husband Joseph G. Hayden, at home; a daughter, Debra M. McElhaney and her husband S. Dean McElhaney, Jamestown, PA; a son, J. Greer Hayden and his wife Sally, Sharon; four grandchildren, Jered McElhaney and his wife Tennille; Danielle McElhaney, Jenna Hayden-Freas and her husband Brian; and Erin Hayden; and two great grandchildren, Christian and Karis McElhaney.

Besides her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Hayes; and four brothers, August, James, Lester and Ernest Nagy.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday (7-4-10) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday (7-5-10) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
