Elizabeth 'Betty' Guba, Sharon, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 5:36 p.m. in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 92.
She was born on July 12, 1919 in Farrell, Pa., the son of George and Mary Stanko Giroski.
A lifelong area resident, she attended Farrell Schools.
She retired in 1982 with twenty years of service from the former Sharon Steel Corporation's Farrell Plant where she worked in their janitorial department.
In her earlier years, she worked for the former Northside Furniture Company in Farrell. She also worked at one time for the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. She was a member of the International United Steel Workers of America, and the Sharon Steel Retirees.
Betty, as she was well known, was a lifelong member of St. John's C. R. Orthodox Church, Sharon.
Her husband Michael Guba whom she married on September 18, 1943, passed away in 1968.
She leaves a grandson, Michael P. Hevener, Austintown, OH; a niece, Ruth Guba with whom she made her home, and a sister Ann Dayner, OH; She is also survived her additional nieces and nephews, Betty Ann Perschka, Connie Sue Hribar, Mary Ann O'Hare, George and Fran Giroski, John Jisko, Mary Easterling, Betty Kroko and her husband Bob, Annette Trebusch, Mary Ann Bokar and her husband George, a sister in law, Julia Miklos, and several other nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Betty is also survived by a very close friend Ann Nagy and her children.
She enjoyed bowling, ballroom dancing, gardening, and shopping.
Her family would like to thank her two very exceptional caregivers, Rose and Rosemary whose loving, kind and compassionate care made it possible for her remain at home, we thank you.
She was preceded in death by her father George Giroski, and her mother Mary Giroski Lengyel, and her only daughter Marion Hevener.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of the donors choice.
Calling hours: From 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service on Tuesday (8-16-11) in St. John's Orthodox Cemetery Chapel at Morefield and South Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
