Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Baker Nettinger of Hermitage passed away at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Ridgewood at Shenango Valley. She was 95.

She was born Dec. 15, 1920, in what was then Hickory Township, a daughter of John and Mary Zimmer Gassner.

Betty attended Hickory schools. She did housekeeping for various businesses and residences throughout the area.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd, where she belonged to the quilters club.

Earlier in life, Betty enjoyed arts and crafts, participated in many local bowling leagues, was a member of the Mother's Club at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, and was very talented at crocheting afghans.

Her first husband, Charles J. Baker, whom she married Oct. 27, 1940, passed away on Oct. 16, 1959. Elizabeth's second husband, Frank J. Nettinger, whom she married Nov. 23, 1978, passed away on April 7, 2014.

She is survived by five sons, Charles T. Baker and his wife Carol, Hermitage; Michael J. Baker and his wife Chris, Akron; Lawrence R. Baker and his wife Becky, Transfer; Joseph E. Baker and his wife Carol, Hermitage; and David F. Nettinger of Wailuku, Hawaii; two daughters, Kathy Struck, Sharon; Carol Campbell, Hermitage; two sisters, Ann Vodjak, Townsend, Mass.: and Margaret Supel, Transfer; two brothers, Rudolph Gassner, Hermitage; and Martin Gassner, Hermitage; and 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Betty was preceded in death by a grandchild, Stefan Tarapchak; six brothers, John, Joseph, Steve, Frank, Lawrence and William Gassner; and two sisters, Mary Winters and Theresa Henderson.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Road,. West Middlesex, PA 16159; Hospice of the Valley, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 19 Warren, OH 44484; or Ridgewood at Shenango Valley, 1 Elston Way, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (7-20-16) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Thursday (7-21-16) in Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Road, West Middlesex, with Monsignor Robert M. Malene as celebrant.

The family asks that everyone go directly to the church.

Interment: Holy Trinity R. C. Cemetery.
