Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Aaron of Hermitage passed away peacefully at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018, in Sharon Regional Medical Center. She was 96.
Mrs. Aaron was born March 2, 1922, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Fred Z. and Ethel Irene (McCoy) Neal. She was a lifelong area resident and 1942 graduate of Sharon High School.
A homemaker the majority of her life, Betty worked at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant prior to her marriage.
She was a founding member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.
Betty enjoyed playing cards. In addition to being a member of the 500 Card Club, she was an active member of several card playing clubs throughout the Shenango Valley for more than 50 years. Betty was also a member of the Hickory Woman's Club, Hermitage.
Surviving are: her husband of nearly 72 years, Arthur J. Aaron, whom she married June 29, 1946, in St. Joseph's Church, Sharon; two sons, Thomas F. (Sharon) Aaron, Curwensville, PA, and Terrence J. (Candice) Aaron, Batavia, IL; two sisters, Barbara Burdick, Sharon, and Patricia Kohler, Bedford, PA; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by three sisters, Zita Kretzer, Bernice Huston, and Mary Louise Frazier; and a brother, James Neal.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, donations may be made online at www.stjude.org/donate.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday ( 5-2-18 ) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday ( 5-3-18 ) in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Very Rev. Richard J. Allen, pastor, as celebrant.
Entombment: St. Rose Mausoleum, Hermitage.
