Eleanor L. Jara, formerly a 30 year resident of Riverview Manor, 15 W. Connelly Blvd., Sharon, passed away at 9:09 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, in the hospital of the Sharon Regional Health System following a very brief illness. She was 96.
Mrs. Jara was born March 15, 1912 in Farrell, Pa.
During WW II she was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
A homemaker, Mrs. Jara was a lifetime member of St. Adalbert Church, Farrell. She cherished the time she spent with her family, particularly with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Jara was an avid bowler, card player and bingo player. Years ago she and her husband enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening at their home on Birchwood Dr.
Her husband, Edward J. Jara, whom she married Jan. 25, 1932, passed away December 25, 1992.
Surviving are: two sons and their wives, Francis E. 'Red' Jara and his wife Marguerite, Sharpsville; and Jerry D. Jara and his wife Carol, New Castle; grandchildren, Michael, Dave, Ritch and Renee Jara; step-grandchildren, John and Christopher Micco and Renae Cotelesse; great grandchildren, Morgan and Brandon Jara; Joshua and Addison Steighner; and step-great grandchildren, Marissa Cotelesse, and John Thomas, Allison, Vincent and Joey Micco.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Jara was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Walter Smith; a sister, Stella Dobrovolski; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Jara.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Adalbert Church, 1035 Fruit Ave., Farrell, PA 16121.
Calling hours will be from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, in St. Adalbert Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Daniel Kresinski, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
