Obituary

Eleanor Madeline Brooks, of Sharon, passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 28, 2019, in her home. She was 92.

Mrs. Brooks was born November 12, 1926, in Salem, OH, a daughter of Joseph and Madeline "Bubba" Swetye.  She attended Salem High School.

Her husband, George Brooks, Sr., whom she married December 17, 1955, survives at home.

Prior to her marriage, Eleanor was employed at her father's pottery business in Salem and the former Plakie Toy Co., Youngstown, OH.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Eleanor was of the Methodist faith.

She loved traveling, especially to spend a day in Cooks Forest or their family's annual trip to Florida.

She is survived by three daughters, Karen (Ray) Guy, of Chandler, AZ, Diane (Ret. Col. Phillip) Jones, of Spokane, WA, and Doreen (Richard) Clark, of Youngstown; a son, George Brooks, Jr., of Sharon; two grandchildren, Brandon Jones and Brittany (Keith) Paterson, of Spokane, WA; a great-grandchild, Conner Jones; a sister, Bernice Toman, of Austintown, OH; and a brother, Tom (Carol) Swetye, of Salem.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Sharon American Legion, Post#299, 1395 East State St., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday (02/03/2019) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

Funeral service is private.
