Obituary

Eileen Buckley Snyder, 58, of 13105 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away the evening of Sunday, April 19, 2015, at her home. Eileen was born in St. Francis Hospital, New Castle on Aug. 7, 1956, to Anthony John and Anna Madeline Pearson Buckley. She was a 1974 graduate of Union High School and a 1978 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a bachelor's degree in social welfare. Eileen went on to earn her master's degree in counseling and psychology at Slippery Rock in 1980. She was first employed as a mental health administrator for 101/2 years in the psychology department at Cambridge Psychiatric Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio. Eileen then was employed as a licensed social worker and licensed professional clinical counselor for 10 years at the Healthcare and Mental Health Care Facilities in Columbus, Ohio. During this time, she was also a loving housewife, mother and home school teacher to her daughter, Colleen, for 14 years. Eileen volunteered extensively for two decades in nursing homes, children's homes, Big Sisters, drug council, adolescent treatment center and Hospice of Guernsey as education coordinator. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. She is survived at home by her husband, Michael Snyder, a firefighter in Worthington, Ohio, and her daughter, Colleen Maria Snyder; her mother, Anna Madeline Buckley of New Castle; four brothers, Anthony Buckley, Robert Buckley and Daniel Buckley, all of New Castle, and William Buckley of Erie; two sisters, Mary Ann (Buckley) Swerdlow of Murrysville, Pa., and Jean (Buckley) Gallagher of Edinburg; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony John Buckley; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Pearson; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Buckley; two nephews (death in utero), along with several cousins and numerous aunts and uncles. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 23, for St. Mary's Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Madonna Cemetery.
