Edyce Ann Burkes, 85, of New Castle, passed away peacefully Friday morning, January 2, 2026, in her home.

Mrs. Burkes was born April 21, 1940, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Edward D. and Elizabeth M. (Krueger) Fee and graduated from New Castle High School in 1958.

Edyce married her high school sweetheart, Merle V. “Sonny” Burkes, on April 12, 1958. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2010, following 52 devoted years of marriage.

For many years, Edyce and Sonny owned and operated Brindle Printing Co. in New Castle.

Edyce was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle – St. Mary’s Church, where she actively volunteered at many church festivals and fundraisers.

She enjoyed line dancing and had a talent for crafting, especially ceramics. Above all else, Edyce was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and adoring grandmother who loved watching her grandchildren, particularly at their many sporting events.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana L. Petrella (Michael), of New Castle, and Leane E. Bintrim (Scott), of Carmel, IN; two sons, Robert M. Burkes (Marianne) and Gregg E. Burkes (Paula), all of New Castle; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Rogers (Heather), Aarika Petrella, Bobby Burkes (Aileen), Jason Burkes (Jenna), David Burkes, Torrey Burkes, Tyler Burkes, Trent Burkes, Trevor Burkes, Jourdan Bintrim, Hannah Bintrim, and Jakob Bintrim, and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Beth Ann Cole (Thomas) and Mary Louise Pizoli; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edyce was preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (1-5-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (1-6-26)in Holy Spirit Parish – St. Mary’s Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Union Twp.
