Edwin Racketa, Sr., 705 Thornton Ave., Sharon, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, in the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio shortly after being admitted. He was 85.

Mr. Racketa was born May 6, 1927 in Sharon, a son of the late Samuel and Mary Roskos Racketa.

He was a 1945 graduate of Sharon High School and served with the US Navy during WWII.

Ed retired in 1984 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. following more than 35 years of employment. He also did house painting and masonry work for family and friends.

He was a lifelong area resident and a member of many social, civic and fraternal organizations.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Ida I. Raykie, whom he married September 11, 1954; three daughters, Gail Kirk, Draper, Utah; Susan Stefan and her husband William, Virginia Beach, Va.; and Jill Lindey, Hermitage; a son, Edwin Racketa, Jr., Wake Forest, NC; seven grandchildren, Aaron Stefan, Kara Ramsey and her husband Lance; Ryan Kirk, Jaime Tan and her husband Angelo; Kyle Lindey and his wife Autumn; Emily Kirk and Savannah Racketa; one great granddaughter, McKenzie Tan; a brother, Carl Racketa and his wife Clara, Girard, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Mel Johnston, Masury, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Lester Racketa; and a sister, Ethel Johnston.
