Obituary

Edward P. Rock of Hermitage passed away following long term heart and circulatory problems and ultimately succumbed to liver cancer on Friday afternoon, November 11, 2016, in his residence. He was 64.


Mr. Rock was born July 3, 1952, in Sharon, a son of Edward J. and Olga Lubinsky Rock. Ed is a 1970 graduate of Hickory High School where he excelled athletically in Track and Field, musically as a violinist representing the high school in state and regional competitions and academically as a member of the Honor Society. Following high school he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania.


Ed was employed by Wheatland Tube Co., formerly Saw Hill and AK Steel, as a crane operator for many years, and previously worked in the same capacity for National Casting for 12 years, both Sharon.


He was an active member of St. John's Ukranian Orthodox Church, Sharon, where he served as an altar boy in his youth and then became a Tonsured Reader.


An avid sports fan, Ed loved cheering for all Cleveland sports teams. He enjoyed good conversation, particularly those that included topics of history, politics and the stock market.


He is survived by: his wife of 27 years, the former Mary Jane Swartz-Maykowski, whom he married May 13, 1989; a daughter, Julia Marie Michelli and her husband Ricky, Greenville; a son, Shawn Ellis and his wife Erin, Mercer; a sister, Deborah Crisan and her husband Ronald – childhood friend and best brother-in-law ever-, Hermitage; seven grandchildren, Cassandra, Glenn Jr. and Noah Babcock; and Brecken, Brayden, and twins Sutton and Sydney Ellis; and an adoptive special aunt, Gerri Eckert. Ed also leaves behind his beloved cat, Bennie.


Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Charlene Maykowski; and father-in-law, Jerome Maykowski.


The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 840 Southwestern Run, Youngstown, OH 44514; or the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.


Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday (11-14-16) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.


A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday (11-15-16) in St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 389 Clark St, Sharon, PA 16146; officiated by The Very Rev. Andrew Gall. The family asks that everyone go directly to the church.


Interment: St. John's section of Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
