Edward Palmer of Mercer, formerly a longtime resident of Stafford St., Hermitage, passed away at
6:09 a.m.
Friday, April 15, 2016, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.
He was 90.
Mr. Palmer was born November 7, 1925, in Sharon, a son of William and Anna Maude Reed Palmer.
He was a graduate of Farrell High School and a lifelong area resident.
Ed retired in 1982 from Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant where he was employed for thirty years.
He previously worked as a brick layer.
Ed was an active member and Deacon at Calvary Christian Church in Mercer.
He was a family man who enjoyed traveling.
A Navy veteran, he served during WW II and participated in the invasion of Normandy.
In addition to the American Area Campaign Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon, he was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Ribbon with one Bronze Star.
His wife, the former Mary Louise Green, whom he married June 28, 1947, passed away February 11, 2008.
Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca L. Aley and Mary Jane Palmer, both with whom he lived; two sons, Edward Palmer and his wife Terrill, West Virginia; and James Palmer, Sharpsville; nine grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a sister, Dolores Cipriano, Mercer.
Besides his wife, Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Palmer; and a son, Daniel Lee Palmer, who died in infancy.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer Research.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial service will be at
11 a.m.
Thursday, April 21, 2016, in the Buhl Chapel in Oakwood Cemetery, with the Rev Adam DeVine officiating.
Military honors will be rendered immediately following the service.
