Edward F. Medvec, 838 Warner Rd., Vienna, Ohio passed away at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday (10-19-11) in the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 56.
Mr. Medvec was born October 8, 1955, in Sharon, a son of Edward M. and Louise Passavant Medvec.
He attended the former Sacred Heart Parochial Grade School in Sharon; was a 1973 graduate of what was then Kennedy Christian High School, Hermitage; and attended Youngstown State University.
A union laborer, Ed was employed in the construction field for 38 years.
He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community-St. Vincent de Paul Church, Vienna, Ohio; and St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where he was a lecturer at both churches. Ed was a member and past president of the former St. Joseph School Board and was a staunch supporter of Kennedy Catholic High School where he was voted the school's #1 fan a few years ago. Ed was a hard worker who was meticulous in his endeavors. He built his home and barn and worked on many construction projects throughout the area. He enjoyed the outdoors, vegetable gardening, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins and golfing years earlier.
Ed was a tall and gentle man who will be remembered by many for his sincerity and strong beliefs. He cherished his family and had a deep spiritual relationship with God.
Surviving are: his wife of 30 years, the former Gayle E. Johnson, whom he married July 25, 1981 in St.'s Peter and Paul Church, Beaver, PA; a daughter, Laura A. Medvec, a student at the University of Akron; his mother, Louise Medvec, Brookfield; three sisters, Mary Grace Wood and her husband Mike, Maumee, Ohio; Patricia Dieterich and her husband Scott, Pittsburgh; and Christine Donchatz and her husband Steve, Girard, Ohio; three brothers, James Medvec, Columbus, Ohio; Michael Medvec and his wife Donna, Hubbard, Ohio; and Paul Medvec and his wife Victoria, Lake Forest, Illinois. He also leaves nine nieces; eight nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Vivian Johnson, New Castle, PA.
Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward M. Medvec; a brother, Joseph Medvec, who died in infancy; and his father-in-law, Edward R. Johnson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday (10-22-11) in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community-St. Vincent de Paul Church, Vienna, Ohio, with the Rev. Frank L. Zanni, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: Brookfield Twp. (Ohio) Cemetery.
