Edward J. Koenig, 7th St., Sharpsville, PA died unexpectedly at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (11-21-09) in his home. He was 62.
Mr. Koenig was born April 11, 1947 in Pittsburgh a son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Werner Koenig.
He was a 1965 graduate of Union City (PA) High School.
Following high school he volunteered for the US Navy and served aboard the USS Sanctuary as a medical corpsman. He was honorably discharged following his tour of duty in Vietnam. He was extremely proud of his country and insisted on displaying the flag. Ed was a lover of amusement parks and volunteered tirelessly to help save Conneaut Lake Park. For years he spent many hours caring for Conneaut Lake Park's Carousel. He also loved animals. Ed lived a simple peaceful life and was content with the smallest things.
Surviving are: his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Cheryl Koenig; his niece, Hannah Koenig, all Erie; and his life partner of 15 years, Bob Verholek, Sharpsville.
Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Koenig.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Animal Advocacy of Mercer and Crawford Counties.
