Obituary

Edward J. "Joe" Kimmel, 90, of New Castle passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, October 10, 2018, in Countryside Nursing Home, Mercer.

Mr. Kimmel was born December 25, 1927, in Ellwood City, a son of the late Edward and Ester (Ziroch) Kimmel.

A proud veteran, Joe served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

A commercial truck driver, Joe owned and operated an independent trucking business for many years, retiring in 1989. During retirement, he continued working for several years as a contracted bus driver at ACTS Lawrence Co.

Joe was a member of Holy Redeemer Church, Ellwood City, where he served as an usher.

He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Rochester Assembly, and also a member of the Ellwood City Council, 11389.

An avid gardener, Joe also enjoyed bowling and caring for the many pets he had throughout the years.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His beloved wife of 69 years, the former Doris Baney, whom he married February 10, 1949, passed away this past June.

Surviving are: three daughters, Debbie (Greg) Fountaine, of Greensburg, Pa., Judy (Paul) Fronius, of New Castle, and Lynnette Kimmel, of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Dan Kimmel, of Novi, Mich., and Michael (Terry) Kimmel, of New Castle; eight grandchildren, Terri Rechter; Shelly Stone; Rory, Brent and Curtis Kimmel; Matthew and Erik Fountaine; and Jessica Kimmel; and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Kay Boyle; seven sisters, Mary Kettler, Ester Kondrasuk, Dolores Arkwright, Betty Anspach, Dorothy DiMarzio, Patricia Figurel and Monnie Craft; and four brothers, Edward, Bill, John and Jim Kimmel.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Three Rivers Hospice, 26 Nesbit Rd., New Castle, PA 16105.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours.

However, a Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, with Rev. Victor Molka, Jr., as celebrant.

Mass will be followed by a procession to Castleview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, New Castle, for entombment where full military honors will be rendered by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.

A memorial luncheon will follow at Gallo's Italian Villa, 2420 Wilmington Rd. where family and friends are welcome to gather at noon.
